Friday Find; Married at First Sight

Picture from Entertainment Wallpaper
Yes, this is a real show and yes, I watched every minute of it. On Tuesday, July 8 at 9pm, I took part in watching one of the most ridiculously awkward, yet entertaining shows ever. I'm talking, when an individual marries a complete stranger.

Picture from New York Post
The new reality TV show, Married at First Sight, is about singles who are looking for love. Sounds typical, right? Wrong... so very, very wrong. In this scientific matchmaking experiment, six contestants undergo intense interview processes with several relationship experts; including a sexologist, spiritualist, psychologist and sociologist.

By the singles creating an online portfolio, allowing the experts to conduct field visits at their homes, and spending hours at a time filling out a questionnaire (no kidding, one contestant spent six hours filling this thing out), the experts hope to narrow down the 625 potential matches into three perfect couples.

But get this, the first time they meet their other half is when they are walking down the aisle. Yes, they all agreed to legally marry their scientific match the very first time they meet them. Disaster? Maybe. Trainwreck? Possibly. Great TV? Absolutely!

Since we all know our obsession with The Bachelor, we are just going to throw in that one of the contestants is a Bachelor alum, Jamie Otis.

Picture from The Knot
Of course Jamie's match doesn't know it's her until she's walking down a rose-petal walkway in a big, white gown. The contestants don't even know their partner's name until the day they say I do! Once married, the show follows them for the first four weeks of living together as newlyweds; it is then when the couple has to decide if they are going to remain married or if they are going to get a divorce.

Mad you missed the first episode? You can read the recap here. Although I missed this past week's episode (don't worry I TiVoed it), I can only imagine it was just as odd and entertaining as the last! Don't miss the third episode of the series next Tuesday on FYI!

Reds Opening Day!

Happy (two days after) Red's Opening Day! While the Cincinnati Reds kicked off another season, we kicked off an Opening Day Viewing Party for business executives and professionals. Everywhere you turned in The Center you could find baseballs, turf and of course, the color red! With help from some amazing vendors, we were able to hit a homerun with this event! Take a look at some of our décor, food, and flowers for a little baseball-loving wedding inspiration, along with learning about the different services each of our contributing vendors donated!

McHale's Events and Catering

McHale's provided a delicious ballpark meal! Including the ever-so-famous coney dogs, meatballs, sandwiches, veggies and fruit! This type of food really gave off a ballpark atmosphere.

Entertainment Unlimited Events

Entertainment Unlimited provided the spandex backdrop. If you are having a smaller reception and are feeling a bit overwhelmed with how to decorate our large, blank canvas space, this type of backdrop really catches guests' eyes and easily fills our space.

All Occasions Event Rental

All Occasions provided the red/chevron linens and white Milano chairs and bar stools. By ordering a larger linen with a table runner, you are able to create a unique cocktail table arrangement. The chevron pattern also makes a great décor statement for those quirky brides.

A Day to Remember Wedding and Event Rental

This red leather couch and white side tables belong to A Day to Remember. Along with the red couch, this wedding and events rental company also contributed the white lounge furniture, which we spread throughout the ballroom, and the wooden bar. Completed with our dome light turned red, The Center had the perfect Opening Day touch.

The Flowerman

Taking a closer look at the center pieces, you can see The Flowerman's personal touches. What is so great about The Flowerman is that the bride and the bridal party can walk into the warehouse and create their own bouquets and flower arrangements for their big day. We think these pieces rounded out the Cincinnati Reds theme perfectly!

Tres Belle Cakes

Along with McHale's, Tres Belle Cakes provided these delicious desserts! What better way to celebrate baseball than with cupcakes, cake pops, and cookies?!

While this is not décor, flowers, or food, take a look at our view from our window! It was the perfect spot to watch the parade go by!

We would like to thank these vendors, along with Simply Events  and Pottinger Photography for helping us make this event a success. We could not have done it without the team of these great vendors!

Review

Check out our Q&A with a past client!
Event: Wedding Reception

1. What led you to choose The Center as the venue for your reception?
We both grew up in Cincinnati (though we now live in Georgia), and we love our home city.  We both felt strongly about wanting our wedding to highlight the beauty and the history of this town. We also knew that most of our guests would be out-of-towners—so we were also looking to find a space within walking distance to hotels and restaurants in the central business district. That meant they wouldn’t have to rent cars for the weekend.

We looked at several venues—none of which were quite “us”—and we kept saying, “If only we could find a large space with hardwood floors right in the middle of downtown that we could use as a blank canvas to create our own feel.”  After checking out several locations, we came to believe that such a space didn’t exist.  Then we walked into The Center!  The space is both sophisticated and minimalistic—the kind of place we knew would be perfect for tailoring the wedding reception to our own mood, style, and personality.

2. How did you find the planning process – choosing vendors, décor, etc.
Since we were planning a wedding from a distance, we solicited the help of Dawn Dagenbach at Details by Dawn.  She guided us through the process of picking vendors and selecting the décor.  She made the planning process quite easy—and I think she deserves an award for helping us plan our dream wedding in just under three months.

3. Walking into The Center at the start of the reception, what were your thoughts?
We were blown away. The lighting was moody and whimsical—and the open space felt more like a swanky lounge than a wedding reception.  We knew early on that we didn’t want a formal sit-down dinner; we wanted our guest to be able to mingle and dance and move around—so the set up was perfect for our tastes.

It was really quite amazing to see all of the small details come together in such a big way:  the back-lit bar, the dance-floor, the flowers, the furniture, the food, our typewriter table, the mime.  We felt like we were transported to a lounge that we’d designed right in the heart of the city.  The moment we saw The Center at the start of the reception we knew one thing for certain: This was going to be a fun night.

4.What do you like most about the space?
The Center is a creative space—the perfect kind of venue for those who hope to create a particular “feel” for an event. It’s a “white box,” so you can go to town on personalizing it with rental furniture, lighting, or whatever you conceive. It was important to us that our wedding reflected our personalities and be fun for our friends. (We know, having been to so many weddings ourselves over the years, that a wedding can be an expensive obligation: travel costs, a couple of nights in a hotel in a distant city, plus incidental expenses all add up. We wanted our friends to get maximum “bang for their bucks.”)  More than anything, we wanted our reception to be fun, lively, unique, and memorable. We loved that The Center was a blank canvas that allowed us to create the perfect night for us.

5.Were you satisfied with the service provided by The Center and the Event Coordinators?
Yes! The good folks at The Center provided plenty of guidance, and, moreover, they were flexible and easy to work with.  Overall, it was an extremely positive experience.

6. Would you recommend The Center to others to use a venue for their events?
We would absolutely recommend The Center to anyone who wants to host an event.  Still, three months after our wedding, our guests continue to tell us what a great night they had.  We only wish we could relive it.
