ISES: Sweet 16! Networking at The Zoo

The Cincinnati Chapter of ISES celebrated 16 years with a Sweet 16 Celebration at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Gardens. The annual fundraising event was held in the brand new Peacock Pavilion. We enjoyed the opportunity to network with others in the local special events industry, and also had fun seeing the exhibits around the zoo.

At the event, the Zoo provided refreshments and food, including the traditional Nigerian Stew pictured below. Entertainment included live music and a magician - the Amazing Cindini! It was a great evening and always a pleasure to meet with other vendors and learn more about event spaces and services in the Cincinnati area. If you are interested in hosting an event in downtown Cincinnati, check out www.thecentercincinnati.com now!

Just for Fun!
An Interview with The Center's Event Coordinators

Q: What is your favorite animal to visit at the zoo?
Sam: The White Lions because they are massive predators that you can get up close with.
Alana: I'm an indecisive, equal opportunity animal lover. Even making it to the parking lot of the zoo brings on child-like excitement.
Shannon: Each time I visit a zoo, I find myself fascinated by a different animal. This time, I think my favorite was the potto. The potto made swinging around on a tree branch look like a lot of fun!

Q: If you could be any animal, what would you be?
Sam: A Koala Bear because they sleep a lot, climb high, and are found in Australia.
Alana: I'd be an elephant... I'd have an awesome memory and amazing hearing.
Shannon: I usually think I would be a squirrel, but I was also pretty impressed with the polar bear's swimming skills. It's a toss up.

Q: What do you like most about visiting the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Gardens?
Sam: I like seeing the renovations and new additions each year.
Alana: Experiencing the animal encounters where the zoo keepers interact or feed the animals is always my favorite part. The animals get so excited to see them and become much more active when there's food involved. Can't say that I blame them. :)
Shannon: I like being able to walk around and see different things with family and friends. The Festival of Lights is always fun too!

Alex and Tom 3-9-13

In the spring of 2012, Alex and Tom selected The Center as their reception venue. From the very beginning, we shared in their excitement as they planned their wedding and reception from out of town.

The couple first toured The Center during our second phase of construction; a memorable tour, complete with the fire alarms sounding during an unexpected test! We were thrilled that they chose to book with us and that they were able to see the same potential for the space as we did. We completed our third phase of renovations just before the March 9th event, and could not have been more happy to share the improvements with Alex, Tom, and their guests. Over the past year, we were able to work together through the planning process and loved every second of it! They created an event that perfectly reflected their graciousness, sense of style, humor, and fun!

Congratulations, Alex and Tom! Thank you for sharing your day with us, and the pictures! Special thanks to Shelby Street Photography for capturing all of the amazing images below!

Get to Know: Chenese Bean

Q: How long have you been in business?
A: Since 1997 and it was actually a side hobby of my Accounting job and then in 2008 I decided to do makeup full-time.

Q: Where are you located?
A: Roselawn, a half mile away from the Reading Bridal District.

Q: What geographical areas do you serve?
A: For brides, commercial and television jobs alike, I've been blessed to work across the globe from California to New York and The Bahamas.

Q: For what types of events do you provide makeup services?
A: Although I'm known in the wedding sector, I also provide makeup artistry services on various photo shoots and video projects for commercials, catalogs, films, magazines and more. When certain celebrities are in town for an event or function he/she is attending, and [I provide makeup services] for other events such as galas, makeup classes, public service functions, non-profit events, prom, high school seniors and boudoir for adult women.

Q: How many people are on staff?
A: Three. However, artistry is mostly done by me and I'll occasionally bring my team for large parties.

Q: What are your specialties?
A: Good question, I'm still trying to figure that out, LOL! But according to clients and facebook friends, I'm known for making women glamorous (no matter if it's a natural look or full out drama), other than that, just being friendly and the fact that I laugh loudly says it all.
